Чтение и письмо: короткий рассказ (Past Simple, Continuous и Perfect)

Last summer my sister and I were flying to Rome for a week. I had packed everything the night before, so in the morning we were relaxed and left home early.
We were checking in at the airport when the woman at the desk asked for my passport. I opened my bag — and it wasn't there. At first I thought it was a joke. Then I realised I had put it on the kitchen table after I had checked the flight details.
My sister was annoyed, but she stayed calm. She phoned our neighbour, who had a key to our flat, and he found the passport in two minutes. Meanwhile, I was standing at the desk, completely embarrassed. Our neighbour took a taxi and arrived forty minutes later. By that time boarding had already started, so we rushed to the gate.
In the end we made it, just in time. Luckily, the flight was a bit late. Now I always check my passport three times — and my sister still laughs about it.
