Dear members,
We have £600 for the language club this year, and we need to decide how to spend it. Here are three options — please read them and reply with your choice by 15 October.
Option A: a conversation course with a native speaker. Ten lessons cost £500, which works out at £25 a lesson for the whole group. If we chose this, we would have only £100 left for books, but the lessons would be worth it: last year's group improved a lot.
Option B: an online subscription for everyone. A year's access to the platform costs £240 for 20 people — good value for money at £1 a month each. If we went for this, we could also afford ten new books and a small party. The downside: people would have to study on their own, and realistically not everyone would use it.
Option C: a weekend trip to Dublin in March. The trip would come to about £550 in total (coach and hostel), £27.50 each. It would be a great experience, but we would have no money left for anything else, and if fewer than 20 people came, the price per person would go up.
If I were you, I would think about what you will actually use. It's up to you — reply with A, B or C.

Dear Tom, thank you for the options. I would choose Option B, the online subscription, for two reasons. First, it is the best value for money: if we went for it, we would have £360 left, so we could buy books and still afford a party. Second, if everyone had access all year, people could practise little and often, which is more effective than ten lessons. I wouldn't choose the trip: it's unlikely that all 20 of us could go in March, and the price would go up.
