Научный ответ на критику — не защита и не капитуляция, а уточнение. Порядок: (1) признать верное (we acknowledge that; we concede the point about); (2) отделить верное от неверного (the criticism is fair as far as it goes; the critic misreads X as Y); (3) показать, что устойчиво (the result is robust to; in response we re-ran); (4) сузить утверждение до того, что данные выдерживают (we therefore narrow the claim to); (5) назвать, при чём остаётесь (we stand by the direction) и дать справедливое прочтение (a fair reading of our results is). Ограничения (limitations) называет сам автор — до критика.

Нюансы
acknowledge — признать факт; concede — уступить в споре; оба уместны, второй прямее.
as far as it goes — «в своих пределах»: верно, но неполно; за ним — «but».
robust to — устойчив к изменению чего-то; robust (без to) — просто «надёжный».
stand by — остаться при; не путать с stand by (быть наготове).
Уточнённый вывод длиннее исходного — это нормально: точность стоит слов.
