Карта разговора: кто развивает какую мысль
В разговоре нескольких людей мысли не выстроены — они переплетены: три нити (threads) идут одновременно, две параллельно, одна уходит в сторону (drifts). Участник C2 держит карту: кто что доказывает (Sam's point; what Priya said; the thing about the date), какие лагеря сложились, что на столе (on the table), что уже решено, что повисло, и где мы сейчас (where we've got to). Карта нужна, чтобы войти со связкой (урок 2), уточнить (урок 4), обобщить (урок 5) и втянуть молчащего (урок 6).

Ошибки новичков: Returning to Anna → returning to Anna's point / what Anna said; as Tom said before — допустимо, но pointed out точнее; separately speaking → separately / on a separate note; путать нить и человека.
Нюансы
- thread — и нить разговора, и ветка в чате; «lose the thread» — потерять нить.
- Отсылка по имени (Sam's point) — признак, что вы слушали; она же вежливо возвращает автору его мысль.
- the thing about X is — разговорная рамка для «главное в X».
- Карта — в голове, не вслух; вслух — только когда обобщаете (урок 5) или возвращаете (урок 3).
- Молчащий участник — часть карты: Tom: silent — это информация (урок 6).
