Пересмотреть позицию вслух — не слабость, а интеллектуальная честность, и делается по форме: (1) что думал раньше (I used to think); (2) что изменило мнение — конкретный довод или данные (what changed my mind was the childcare figure; on reflection, my opponent's second point stands); (3) что считаю теперь (I now hold); (4) статус — не отступление, а поправка (revise, not abandon); (5) что вернуло бы прежнее (what would change it back) — признак, что новая позиция тоже проверяема. Упереться (dig in) после хорошего возражения — потерять больше, чем уступить. For the record фиксирует изменение честно.
