Проверяем понимание: подтвердить вывод конкретной деталью
Вывод стоит ровно столько, сколько деталь, на которую он опирается. Поэтому в разговоре о новости постоянно звучат три хода: привязать к детали (the key detail is …, the figures show …), назвать силу связи (points to, suggests, implies, is consistent with — но not necessarily) и перепроверить понимание (so what you're saying is …?).

Нюансы
- suggest здесь — «наводить на мысль» (данные), а не «предлагать» (человек): the data suggests / I suggest that we …
- imply (говорящий подразумевает) vs infer (слушающий делает вывод).
- data — формально множественное (the data suggest), но в СМИ обычно the data suggests; оба варианта приняты.
- Связь ≠ причина: «linked to», «associated with» — корреляция; причина — cause, lead to, с доказательствами.
