Сопоставление версий: общее, расхождения и пропуски
Две версии события сопоставляют по трём вопросам: в чём они согласны (common ground, both report, corroborate), в чём расходятся (differ in, contradict, discrepancy) и что каждая опускает (omit, leave out). Пропуск — самое важное и самое незаметное: версия не лжёт, она молчит. Итог сопоставления — не «кто прав», а карта: известно / спорно / не упомянуто.

Ошибки новичков: They differ in the cause → differ on the cause; A doesn't say anything about — верно, но makes no mention of точнее для отчёта; Both of the accounts agree with each other that → Both accounts agree that.
Нюансы
- differ in + чём (emphasis, detail); differ from + от чего (her account differs from his).
- corroborate — независимое подтверждение; повтор той же версии — не corroboration.
- omit — нейтрально (может быть случайно); suppress — намеренно скрыть.
- account здесь — «изложение событий», не «счёт».
- reconcile — не «примириться» лично, а «совместить версии»; reconcile X with Y.
