Абзац и переход: тезис → данные → анализ → связка
Академический абзац — четыре части: topic sentence (одно утверждение), evidence (данные с источником), analysis (что данные значат для тезиса — самая частая пропущенная часть) и link (связующее предложение к следующему абзацу). Переходы между абзацами показывают логику всего текста: having established X, we turn to Y; this raises the question; in the light of; taken together; a further consideration. Хороший переход называет, что сделано, и что будет дальше.

Ошибки новичков: абзац из одних данных без анализа; Firstly / Secondly / Thirdly без логической связи; As I said before → As noted above; Now I will talk about → The next section considers. Проверка: прочтите первые фразы всех абзацев подряд — должен получиться связный план эссе.
Нюансы
- Абзац без analysis — «данные говорят сами за себя» — на C1 считается незавершённым.
- Having established — причастный оборот: подлежащее главного — «we» / «this essay» (тема 48).
- signpost — обозначать структуру (first, second, finally; this section; as shown above) — умеренно.
- Один абзац — 100–180 слов в эссе; короче — недоразвито, длиннее — два абзаца.
- Связка в конце абзаца сильнее, чем в начале следующего: читатель ждёт продолжения.
