work out о расчёте — «выходить»: It works out cheaper (получается дешевле); о человеке — «тренироваться» (тема 10).
cost не меняется: cost — cost — cost. «Стоит 60 фунтов» — It costs £60 (не it is cost).
alternative — и существительное (an alternative), и прилагательное (an alternative route).
best bet — разговорное; в письме — the best option.
